UPDATE DEC. 10, 2010 -- Polar Plunge will not be open on Dec. 18. Hidden Valley Ski Resort anticipates this attraction will open after Christmas.

UPDATE DEC. 6, 2010 -- Hidden Valley Ski Resort will open for the season on Saturday, Dec. 18, according to Hidden Valley Ski Resort's pre-recorded message.

JUNE 30, 2010 -- In the comfort and security of an inner tube, St. Louis families can zip down a snow-tubing run at Hidden Valley Ski Resort beginning this winter.

"Not everybody can ski and not everybody can snowboard, but everyone can tube," said Bill Brandes, general manager at Hidden Valley. "It doesn't take a lot of athletic coordination. If you can hang on, you can ride down!"

The 800-foot run will include eight tubing lanes and will drop a gradual 80 feet (that's enough to pick up good speed on an icy hill!). Carpet lifts will carry tubers and their tubes up to the top of the run, Brandes said.

Brandes, who has taken his family tubing, calls the experience "exhilirating." He recommends it for all ages and abilities.

"We tubed for three hours, and we were worn out! But we had a blast," he said.

Tubing has a low injury risk, Brandes said, and special rollers, deceleration mats and pea gravel will ensure even the most wayward tuber will stop safely.

While pricing has yet to be determined, Brandes thought a 2- or 3-hour tubing session would cost upwards of $25 per person. Hidden Valley Ski Resort opens for the winter in December when weather is conducive to making snow. For more information, see their website.
