Confluence Partnership Adds Geocaching, Cell Phone Tours and Webcams
There's now more to do in the confluence region! The Confluence Partnership, which aims to reconnect people with the region's great rivers, has announced new ways to interact with the confluence greenway, including geocaching, cell phone tours and webcams of the confluence.
The Confluence Partnership has joined forces with the National Wildlife Federation to make geocaching – a growing international activity that combines a real-life outdoor treasure hunt with GPS-enabled technology – easily available for reconnecting to America's great rivers. This program was developed to provide fun ways for children and families to explore the 200 square mile Confluence network of conservation, heritage and recreation attractions along the great rivers in the heart of the bi-state St. Louis region. There are now three geocache trails in the confluence area that families can explore. For more information, visit www.confluencegreenway.org and click on "geocache."
The Confluence Partnership also offers cell phone tours, showcasing 28 sites in the confluence region, and webcams of the Arch, Mississippi River and Eads Bridge.
"It's exciting to see how these new additions and enhancements are increasing our reach," said Laura Cohen, executive director of The Confluence Partnership. "These interactive innovations will engage new visitors and will allow everyone to experience The Confluence in fresh, new ways."
Celebrate Shark Week at Saint Louis Zoo
Now that sharks have invaded Stingrays at Caribbean Cove this summer, the Saint Louis Zoo can happily celebrate its first Shark Week, July 31 through Aug. 5, 2011.
Come to the Zoo dressed as a shark that week, and get into the Stingrays at Caribbean Cove featuring Sharks exhibit for free. Paying customers to the exhibit will be awarded an "I survived Shark Week at the Saint Louis Zoo" sticker, which will earn them 10 percent off at food and retail venues around the zoo. Kids will receive a shark and stingray activity book upon their entrance to the cove.
On Monday, Aug. 1, and Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 12-3 p.m., take a tropical trip to the Caribbean with The Lenny Frisch Duo, a steel drum band playing live music outside Caribbean Cove. Be sure to swim by at 1:30 p.m. those days to participate in a friendly shark frenzy!
On Friday, Aug. 5, flit your fins at the Jungle Boogie concert featuring Charles Glenn, from 5-8 p.m. at Schnuck Family Plaza in the center of the Zoo.
Throughout the week, make a pit stop at Ray's Grill next door to the pool for a shark dog special. Adults can refresh themselves with "shark juice" or a Land Shark lager. Stop by a craft table to assemble your very own Chompy the Shark to take home as your pet. Interpreters will be floating around the Zoo to enlighten guests about Shark Week and spin tales about their toothy friends.
Admission to the zoo is free. Admission to Stingrays at Caribbean Cove featuring Sharks is $3 for nonmembers and $1.50 for members. Children under 2 are free. Admission is free to all from 8-9 a.m. Visitors dressed in shark costume are free during Shark Week, July 31 through Aug. 5, 2011. Those over the age of 13 must comply with the Zoo's adult costume policy. For more information about Shark Week at the Saint Louis Zoo, visit www.stlzoo.org/sharkweek.
