O'Fallon Offers Spring Break Volunteer Opportunities

FEB. 23, 2011 -- Families staying in town over Spring Break can take advantage of several opportunities promising a positive impact on the community. Energetic volunteers are invited to join the City of O'Fallon in preparing city parks for this year's seasonal activities, athletic events and park visitors.
Alternative Spring Break projects are being scheduled from March 14 to 24 for the convenience of staff and students at local school districts. Green initiatives include mulching trees and beds, planting, weeding and general park cleanup. Additional projects involve painting, spreading wood fibers on playgrounds, power-washing pavilions and equipment maintenance.
Service activities are available for all ages, said Kathy Halstead, manager of volunteer services for the city. In fact, families have brought children as young as 2 years old to city service projects, which provide a good opportunity to teach youngsters the value of volunteering.
