Magic House to Host Egg Roll; Seeking Seashells for Sandcastle Beach
MARCH 30, 2011 - Visitors will get things rolling on The Magic House's front lawn on Monday, April 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the museum's first ever Egg Roll. In the great tradition of the White House, The Magic House with its own replica Oval Office located in the museum's Star Spangled Center, is inviting children 12 and under to roll up their sleeves and participate in an egg-citing race as they use large spoons to roll their eggs across the finish line.
Eggs-tra activities include egg dying, making "Medals of Eggsellence," a special story time and even an opportunity to take a photo with the Easter Bunny. Characters from "Alice in Wonderland" including the White Rabbit and Alice will also be on hand to promote The Magic House's upcoming summer exhibit Alice's Wonderland. All egg-tivities are free with museum admission and no reservations are required.
Calling all Beachcombers
The Magic House is searching for seashells for Sandcastle Beach, a "sandsational" outdoor exhibit opening May 19. With the help of ten truckloads of sand, The Magic House's backyard is being transformed once again into a beachfront park, complete with tons of sand, hidden seashells, ocean misters, beach umbrellas and a 75-ton sandcastle. Shells are needed for the shell dig, and The Magic House is inviting all beachcombers, spring breakers and vacationers to collect and donate their seashells to the museum's backyard beach.
Sandcastle Beach will be at The Magic House May 19 through June 26 and is sponsored by North Star Frozen Treats and Prairie Farms Dairy. Shells can be dropped off at The Magic House during regular museum hours, Tuesday through Thursday, 12:00 to 5:30 pm, Friday 12:00 to 9:00 pm, Saturday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5:30 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays.
The Magic House, located at 516 S. Kirkwood Road in Kirkwood, is a not-for-profit participatory museum that provides hands-on learning experiences for children and families that encourage experimentation, creativity and the development of problem-solving skills within a place of beauty, wonder, joy and magic. Regular museum admission is $8.75 per person. Children under the age of one are free.
