Lakeside Park Opens in St. Peters
Correction -- 370 Lakeside Park is 300 acres. The acreage mentioned in the original story was incorrect.
MAY 18, 2011 -- A new park opens tomorrow that gives area families additional opportunities for camping, boating, biking and strolling in the St. Louis metro area. Known, for now at least, as 370 Lakeside Park, it will open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, in St. Peters.
The 300-acre park includes a man-made 140-acre recreational lake where the public is invited to fish and boat. The bow-tie shaped lake, which is a little less than half the size of Creve Coeur Lake, was created as crews built the levee that protects the Premier 370 Business Park, according to David Fults, communications specialist with the City of St. Peters. The lake is stocked with bass, bluegill, channel catfish and crappie.
Visitors can use the boat ramp for their watercraft (trolling motors only) and rental canoes, kayaks and paddleboats will be available at the lake. A 3-mile trail around the lake is also open to walkers and cyclers.
The City of St. Peters will also manage a campground and RV park. Alongside the lake, the campground features 10 tent campsites and 50 RV pads. Camping fees range from $7-45 depending on season and the type of campsite required. The camp features free wireless access and security.
Construction began on the park in 2009 and has cost the city $6.1 million, Fults said. Future projects at the park include the installation of pavilions, large playgrounds, campgrounds for organized groups, a sand volleyball site, an archery range and a dog park.
"We're looking to complete the other projects as money becomes available," Fults said. The city will be conducting a naming rights campaign to help offset the costs of developing this park, he said.
370 Lakeside Park is located at 1000 Lakeside Park Drive, St. Peters, Mo., 63376. From Highway 370, take the Truman Road/Cave Springs Road exit and travel north to 370 Lakeside Park.
