Hidden Valley Ski Resort Hopes to Open Dec. 17
DEC. 16, 2011 -- Due to the warm temperatures, Hidden Valley Ski Resort will not open on Saturday, Dec. 17. For the latest snow report from Hidden Valley, visit their website.
NOV. 29, 2011 -- St. Louis is finally receiving seasonable weather, and that's exciting for Bill Brandes, general manager at Hidden Valley Ski Resort. He's trying to get the ski slopes and tubing run open on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Modified snow guns will improve the snow at Hidden Valley this year, Brandes reports, but the ski resort still needs consecutive nights with temperatures below 20 degrees to create enough snow to open runs.
Hidden Valley Ski Resort offers tubing, skiing and snowboarding. Ski lessons are offered for ages 3 and up, and snowboarding lessons are offered for ages 5 and up.
The Polar Plunge Ski Tubing Area (reviewed by Sprout last January) was in the headlines last winter for tubing-related accidents.
"Out of 13,000 tubers, we had one concussion, one broken finger and a broken ankle," Brandes said. "Those occur in snow sports accidents," he said, mentioning there are inherit risks involved in tubing. He called these accidents "nothing out of the ordinary," adding, "If one person does get hurt, that's upsetting."
Hidden Valley Ski Resort is located at 17409 Hidden Valley Drive, Wildwood, Mo., 63025. Call 636-938-6999 for more information and updated snow reports.
