MARCH 8, 2011 -- St. Louis County Library Foundation's popular Gift of Reading program will celebrate a milestone this month. Over 10,000 books have been distributed to preschoolers since the program's inception in 2007. The foundation will mark the occasion with a special story time at the Florissant Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. Cookies will provided by Companion, and all kids in attendance will take home a free book. The Florissant Valley Branch is located at 195 New Florissant Road.

The Gift of Reading Program is designed to give young readers a head start and to foster an early love of reading. The program provides free, new books once a month to children attending the library's story time sessions at eight branches: Natural Bridge, Cliff Cave, Florissant Valley, Indian Trails, Rock Road, Bridgeton Trails, Lewis & Clark, Weber Road.

The Gift of Reading is made possible by generous support from the Arthur and Helen Baer Charitable Foundation. Additional co-sponsors include: The Booksource, The Daniel and Henry Co., Unique Books Inc., Lockton and Build-a-Bear Workshop Foundation.

To learn more about the program please visit www.slcl.org or call 314-994-3300 to locate a Gift of Reading story time at a branch near you.

  1. What a wonderful program! I am going to share this with our nannies and sitters so they can be sure to stop by with their charges. Thanks so much for sharing!
