DEC. 21, 2010 -- Beginning Jan. 7, visitors of The Magic House can take the first step toward a healthy lifestyle by participating in Fitness First Fridays. On the first Friday evening of every month from 5:30-9 p.m., families can stretch their muscles and their minds as they don pedometers and walk a 1,000 step circuit throughout the museum touring hundreds of exhibits and looking for "Fit Facts" filled with useful health and nutrition information. Each month will feature a different fitness theme to get families energized about getting fit.

Fitness First Fridays also feature group physical activities indoors and out; cooking demonstrations by The Magic House's chef using healthy recipes featured in the Centene Kids Cookbook and special guest appearances and conditioning sessions conducted by professional, college and high school athletes. Since all of this activity is sure to work up an appetite, the museum's Picnic Basket Café is offering healthy food and snacks for families to enjoy together.

Fitness First Fridays are free for children who complete a monthly Fitness First Challenge on The Magic House's website. The first 100 families to register for Fitness First Friday each month will receive a free backpack filled with health-related education materials and fitness equipment that encourages good health and wellness practices.
