MARCH 1, 2011 -- This spring the city of Chesterfield will finish construction on the Central Park Amphitheater. The state-of-the-art amphitheater, which includes a concession stand and restrooms, has a capacity for 2,000.

The city anticipates using the facility for their summer concert series, movie nights, and school graduations, for example. Construction of the new amphitheater and other park amenities is being completed by Federich Construction for $7 million.

"It's going to really put us on the map as far as having a central location where multiple types of events can be held," said Libbey Tucker, assistant city administrator for community services and economic development.

The grand opening for the Central Park Amphitheater will be held on Saturday, May 21, and will feature entertainment by Edwin McCain, Planet Boogie and Chesterfield native Josh Golden. The day-long "Celebrate Central Park" event begins at 10 a.m. with various activities offered throughout the day, including a car show, arts activities, safety fair and a hot air balloon, Tucker said.

Adjacent park amenities include the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center, walking trails, playground, the Awakening, lake and streams with gazebos and pedestrian bridges.

Central Park is located at 16365 Lydia Hill Drive in Chesterfield, just west of Chesterfield Mall.
