FEB. 15, 2011 -- Chesterfield Montessori School will offer an early adolescent program for seventh and eighth graders beginning in September 2011.

"Adolescence is a time of discovery, transition and the formation of identity, making this an extremely important time in a young person's development," said Head of School Anita Chastain.

The program will include an academically rigorous curriculum coupled with real world experiences; opportunities for students to run a small business for connection to the community; outdoor work to study nature and the environment; and personal expression through creative writing, fine arts, and physical education. A Montessori background is not required for new students interested in entering the adolescent program.

Founded in 1981, Chesterfield Montessori School offers authentic Montessori programs for children ages 16 months through sixth grade. The school is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), which was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori. Situated on a five-acre campus in Chesterfield, the school features an architectural award-winning building, a swimming pool, two tennis courts and a children's garden. Students come from many countries and diverse backgrounds. Most importantly, Montessori educators recognize Chesterfield Montessori School as one of the finest schools in the United States.
