A 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' Visits The Hett

FEB. 15, 2011 -- "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and two other whimsical children's stories by award-winning writer-illustrator Eric Carle will come to life in black light at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., on Sunday, March 20. The performance by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will begin at 3 p.m. at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" follows a tiny creature's adventures as he progresses through an amazing variety of foods toward his eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly. "Little Cloud" slips away from other clouds and transforms itself into the shapes of things it sees – a sheep, a shark, an airplane. In "The Mixed-Up Chameleon," a bored little lizard takes a trip to the zoo and tries to resemble the other animals, with hilarious results.

Mermaid Theatre's unique adaptations of children's literature have introduced over 4 million youngsters on four continents to the magic of live theater.

A limited number of seats remain so reservations are highly recommended. Tickets are $12 for adults (age 13 to 60), $10 for seniors (+60) and $5 for children and full-time students. To purchase tickets or get more information, visit www.theHett.com or call the box office at 618-537-6863.

The Russel E. and Fern M. Hettenhausen Center for the Arts—"The Hett"—is Southern Illinois's premier performing arts venue, presenting world class dance, drama, classical music and jazz. The 488-seat venue is located on the McKendree University campus in Lebanon, Ill., 25 miles from downtown St. Louis. www.theHett.com
