St. Louis Family Theatre Series: Perfect For Young Children

5 Votes

Yesterday, our family went to the first show of the 2010-2011 season at the St. Louis Family Theatre Series. The Theatre performances are held at the Florissant Civic Center, and they are so perfect for young children! The first show was Pocahontas. It lasted about 50 minutes, and was followed by time for children to meet the performers (and get autographs of course). The show was filled with just enough goofy humor and song and dance to keep my 3 year old's attention, and enough story to keep my 6 year old's attention. We are looking forward to the next performances - If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (Nov.), Junie B. Jones (Jan.), Peter Pan (Feb.), and Duck for President, Fancy Nancy and Other Story Books (March). TWO THUMBS UP FOR THE ST. LOUIS FAMILY THEATRE!

Santa Claus, Indiana: Holiday World

My family just came back from Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. We give the entire park 5 stars! The park was extremely clean; the water rides were a blast. My 8 year old is now a roller coaster pro. We loved the complementary drinks throughout the park. You could also tell the employees took pride in the park. If you have a tween you have to take them!

Swing Around Fun Town

swingaround4After living in Fenton for 7 years, my family and I finally checked out Swing Around Fun Town. We had not given it a try sooner because we assumed it was for older children. Between the batting cages, 27 holes of miniature golf, bumper boats, go-karts, rookie go-karts (for children ages 3-8), jumpshot basketball, rock-climbing wall, Bowlingo, arcade and an indoor tubes/slide softplay area, there were things to do for all ages. And definitely more to do than we could get done in the few hours we allotted to be there. The tees on the miniature golf course need to be replaced, but if you can get over having to place your ball in front of the tee, the course was nice. We appreciated that we could buy mini golf in increments of 9 holes. It gave us time to let our 3 year old and 5 year old try the rookie go karts. Then we rode the regular go-kart track in double karts, so we could drive and the kids could ride. To do these activities, it cost our family of 4 about $40. On Tuesdays, if you wear a Swing Around Fun Town t-shirt, you get 50%. So we may invest in one of those shirts if it will get our whole family a discount, because the kids definitely want to return! My 5 year old left disappointed that her birthday party is already planned for later this month. She decided that her 7 year old birthday party must be at Swing Around Fun Town! Food and drink are available for purchase.

Shaw Nature Reserve

shawnatureShaw is a great place to take scouts. You can tailor your visit according to the rank of your scouts and complete requirement for Tigers through Webelos. This is a great way to keep the "OUT" in "SCOUTING" fun for the boys and the parents. Another great place to visit is Powder Valley in the Kirkwood area. I've taken my scouts to this area many times and the boys could never get enough of both the indoor and outdoor nature areas.

Powder Valley Nature Center

powdervalleyApril 1st was my birthday and I spent it doing what I love. Spending quality time with my 5 year old son. We went to the Powder Valley Nature Center. He had not been there since he was a year old. It was fantastic. The nature center has new activities for the kids. You can learn so much about the animals in our state. They have a large fish tank with various fish in Missouri's lakes and streams. After we visited the Nature center, we had a picnic. Then we walked the longest trail (I wasn't sure if my little guy could make it - but he did). We had a blast looking at the trees and birds. They had several smaller trails there too. The nature center is also free - which makes it icing on the cake. I suggest that everyone check it out - and it is not as busy as other St Louis attractions.

Mike Super's Lavenous Magic Show!

Mike Super's magic show was absolutely amazing!  I was completely astounded when he fit a grown teenage girl into a origami box and stuck knives through the top, bottom, and side of the box. She came out of the box completely safe and all right! I was truly wowed by Mike Super and I will never forget his amazing performance.
