As part of annual membership recruitment and an attempt to be recognized on a national television show, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM) invites girls (Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts) in kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in a multi-location dance event on Saturday, July 31, 2010, 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Local dance schools are also encouraged to participate. Those interested may participate at any of the following locations:

▪ Jewish Community Center Gym, 2 Millstone Campus Drive, St. Louis, MO
▪ St. Louis Old Post Office Plaza, 9th and Locust, Downtown St. Louis, MO
▪ Bowles Elementary, 501 Bowles Avenue, Fenton, MO
▪ Dusable Park, 2300 Main Street, Shelter #1, St. Charles, MO
▪ Mineral Area College, 5270 Flat River Road, Park Hills MO
▪ Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Center, 330 S. Main, Brookfield, MO

The event is in celebration of National Dance Day, as proclaimed by Fox Television's "So You Think You Can Dance" program. The Fox show's producer, Nigel Lythgoe, declared National Dance Day as part of his commitment to support dance education and physical fitness in the United States. By participating, attendees may help set a record for the largest number of participants dancing in the St. Louis area on that specific day. This idea is being submitted by GSEM to the popular Fox program, whose producers have put out a call for plans to celebrate National Dance Day -- with the promise of a possible mention on a future episode of the show.
Participants will learn and dance the official National Dance Day dance routine at the event, as well as other styles of dance.

There is no charge to participate; however, attendees must register in advance and no later than July 28, 2010. Registration forms are available online, or may be picked up at the St. Louis Girl Scout Service Center or any of the locations above. The first 1000 girls who register will receive a gift. Girl Scouts who bring a non-registered Girl Scout with them to participate will receive a patch and be entered in a drawing to receive new Girl Scout merchandise.
