Events Will Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Oh, the places your family can go to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday! Several organizations and businesses are hosting parties and special events on or around the beloved author and illustrator's birthday, March 2.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash
Fans of Dr. Seuss can put on their Bar-ba-loot suits, stick a Wocket in their pockets, hop on pop, and make a stop at the Magic House for a super-dee-dooper-dee-booper good time on Feb. 25 and 26. The Nine Network of Public Media presents the event to kick off Read Across America Week at the Magic House with a Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash. Visitors can listen to local celebrities read from their favorite Dr. Seuss books, make their very own Dr. Seuss hat, watch episodes of the PBS science-based show, "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!" and even get their picture taken with The Cat in the Hat. Bring a new Dr. Seuss book ($5 minimum value) to donate to Joplin School District for a free kids admission with a paying adult. See the Sprout calendar for details.

Dr. Seuss Storytime
All Target stores are hosting a Dr. Seuss Storytime on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9-11 a.m. In addition to reading "The Lorax," Target staff will also have activities and goodie bags. See the Sprout calendar for details.

"The Lorax"

"The Lorax" opens in theaters on Dr. Seuss' birthday in conjunction with the National Education Association's Read Across America (See the NEA website for some fun Lorax-related activities you can do at home).
"Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," is a 3-D adaptation of the classic tale of a forest guardian who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for a real Truffula Tree, the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To get it he must find the story of the Lorax, the acerbic yet charming character who fights to protect his world. Lending their vocal talents to the project are Danny DeVito as the Lorax; Ed Helms as the Once-ler; Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax; Taylor Swift as Audrey, the girl of Ted's dreams; Rob Riggle as the villain O'Hare; Jenny Slate as Ted's protective mother; and Betty White as Ted's wise Grammy Norma.

Oh, The Places You'll Go Weekend at Trout Lodge, March 2-4
With brains in your head and feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose. So steer yourself toward YMCA Trout Lodge as they wish a very happy birthday to Dr. Seuss. Celebrate his big day at the lodge while doing activities from all your favorite Seuss stories. Oh, The Places You'll Go Weekend at Trout Lodge is March 2-4. See the Sprout calendar for details.

St. Louis Mills Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Dr. Seuss' First Book
Children of all ages can engage their wild imaginations in honor of the 75th anniversary of the release of Dr. Seuss' first book, "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street." This special tribute will also celebrate other Dr. Seuss treasures like "Green Eggs and Ham" and "The Cat in the Hat." The Mills promises a whimsical trip through Seussville, including story time, a parade, create your own parade hat, Dr. Seuss activity books, prizes and more. The one and only Cat in the Hat will be making a special guest appearance and kids will take home festive goody bags. Celebrate Dr. Seuss from 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at St. Louis Mills near Books-A-Million. See the Sprout calendar for details.

Family Film Day: "Horton Hears a Who!"
The Missouri History Museum will be showing "Horton Hears a Who!" for free on Saturday, March 3, at 12:30 p.m. Bring the family for light snacks, chances to win prizes and Radio Disney. See the Sprout calendar for details.
