The 2013-2014 guide to ice-skating in St. Louis

Looking for some open ice? This hockey-loving town has 15 ice rinks and arenas that offer public sessions. Many of them also offer learn-to-skate programs, and hockey and figure skating programs for kids. Here's a rundown of where to go for public sessions across the St. Louis region.


Please note, all public session schedules are accurate for December 2013. These schedules change frequently, so please call before you go.

Brentwood Ice Arena
2505 South Brentwood Blvd., Brentwood, Mo., 63144
Public session schedule: Mondays 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m..; Tuesdays 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m.; Thursdays 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 1:30 to 3 p.m.; Sunday 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. (Note that in January the Monday through Friday session will be 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.)
Public session admission: $4 for general admission; $3 for Brentwood residents and seniors; free for ages 3 and under. Skate rental is $1.50.

Creve Coeur Ice Arena

Public session schedule: Monday and Wednesday, 9:15 to 11:15 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.; Friday 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 8:30 to 9:45 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Public session admission: $5 for general admission; $4.50 for ages 55 and up; free for ages 4 and under; Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights residents are $3 and $2.50 for ages 55 and up. Skate rental is $2.
Lessons and programs: Skating lessons, figure skating, stick and puck sessions, hockey

East Alton Ice Arena

Public session schedule: Wednesday 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; Friday 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 7 to 8:45 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 1 to 2:45 p.m.
Public session admission: $5 for general admission; $4 for seniors. East Alton residents pay $4 general admission and $3 for senior citizens. Skate rental is $2.
Lessons and programs: Learn to skate, hockey, stick and puck and figure skating sessions
Notes: East Alton Ice Arena also offers lock-ins.

Granite City Ice Rink

Public session schedule: Friday 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Sunday 2:45 to 4:45 p.m.
Public session admission: $4 for children; $5 for adults. $2.75 for child residents and $3.75 for adult residents (must present park ID). Skate rental is $1.50.

Greensfelder Recreation Complex in Queeny Park

Public session schedule: Monday 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m.; Tuesday 10 a.m. to noon; Wednesday 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. to noon; Friday 10 a.m. to noon, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 7 to 9 p.m.; Sunday 3 to 5 p.m.
Public session admission: $4 for ages 5 to 12; $5 for ages 13-64; $4 for ages 65 and up; free for ages 4 and under. Skate rental is $1.50.

Notes: This ice rink is seasonal and is only open October through February. Enjoy DJ skate nights on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hardee's Iceplex

Public session schedule: Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday 7 to 9 p.m.; Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.
Public session admission: $5 per person, including skate rental. Admission is $7 during holiday season.
Lessons and programs: Skating lessons, hockey and figure skating, fitness skate
Notes: With its three skating arenas — two professional arenas and an Olympic-sized arena — Hardee's Iceplex is the largest ice complex in Missouri and hosts numerous tournaments and special events.

Ice Zone
St. Louis Outlet Mall (formerly St. Louis Mills), Suite 345, 5555 St. Louis Mills Blvd., Hazelwood, Mo., 63042
Public session schedule: Visit the website for detailed information. Generally, public sessions are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday; 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, and in the late evenings on Friday and Saturday.
Public session admission: $5.50 for general admission. Skate rental is $2.50. Kids 5 and under are $3, including skates.
Lessons and programs: Learn to skate, drop-in stick and puck, figure skating sessions

Public session schedule: Monday 9 to 11 a.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday 9 to 11 a.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.; Thursday 9 to 11 a.m. and 3:30 to 5 p.m.; Friday 9 to 11 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday 12:30 to 3 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.; Sunday 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Public session admission: $7.75 for adults, $5.25 for kids under 18; $5.50 for seniors; $3.25 for military veterans. Skate rental is $3. Discounts are available for St. Peters City residents with a passport card.
Lessons and programs: Skating instruction, including figure skating and hockey.
Notes: On select Friday nights, families can also jam with DJ Skate. DJ Skate events are scheduled for Jan. 10, 2014, and Feb. 9, 2014.

Public session schedule: Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight. Steinberg offers extended hours during winter holidays.
Public session admission: $6 for all ages. Skate rental is $5.

Public session schedule: Times vary, but public sessions are typically 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 2:15-3:45 p.m. on Sundays.
Public session admission: $4 general admission; $3 for Webster Groves residents; kids 3 and under are free. Skate rental is $2.
